FREE SMOKE DETECTORS- (Posted March 9, 2017)

The Bronson Fire Department is proud to announce its participation in the Home Fire Campaign launched by the American Red Cross to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires by as much as 25 percent over five years. Achieving this goal is beyond the means of any one organization, and the Bronson Fire Department is proud to partner with the American Red Cross and other coalition partners to achieve these goals by installing smoke alarms and providing live-saving fire and disaster safety education, especially in at-risk communities.

Home fires are the biggest threat facing American families, affecting more people annually than floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes combined. On average, home fires cause approximately 2,500 deaths and nearly $7 billion in property damage every year. Seven times a day someone dies in a home fire, and every 40 minutes, an injury from a fire is reported. The rate of home fire deaths and injuries has remained relatively constant over the past twenty years. By mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the American Red Cross and the Bronson Fire Department can attack this stagnation and work toward significantly lowering the incidence of death and injuries from home fires.

Having a working smoke detectors reduces the chance of death from a home fire by 50 percent. If you do not have working smoke detectors, live in the Bronson fire district, and would like assistance, the Bronson Fire Department will supply and install smoke detectors in your home for free (while supplies last). To schedule an appointment, call the Bronson Fire Department at (517) 369-6475.
